Assuming that no changes have occurred in what you are jounaling nor
how you are doing it (like no longer omitting opens/closes).

Has someone started copying records out of and back into a file
to clear it. Has a program been changed that is now updating a
large file even if no fields are changed?

I would first check to see if anything has changed in how you are
jounaling. Then I would check to see what new programs or program
changes have been made recently.

Try doing a DSPJRN to an out file and try running simple summary
queries to see if any one file, program or user shows up most of the
time.
