One way to set the 400 up to send is detailed on my web-site,
http://www.ways.demon.co.uk (This is a how-to, not an ad)
This uses the SNDDST and MSF functions to enable you to send 
to any address with only one DIRE. Receiving is something else - 
I don't need to receive, so I haven't dealt with that.

The redbook AS/400 mail server capabilities is useful.
