>>A customer of ours took performance measurements, saved it to their >>PC as a SAVF, and E-mailed the file to us. We took the file, and FTP'd it >>to our AS/400 - to analyze the results. So we have the file on our 400, >>but cannot RSTNETF the PF (as it is neither in the distribution queue, >>nor known to the system as a SAVF). Have we shot ourselves in the foot, >>or is there a way to recover this? We still have the SAVF on our server, >>so backing up a step would also be possible. >If your customer FTP'd a save file to you, you can create a save file on >your AS/400(via CRTSAVF) and then FTP the file you received to the save >file and then use the RSTOBJ or RSTLIB command. Did they FTP the SAVF from their AS/400 to the PC in binary mode? You have to do that so it is not converted from EBCDIC to ASCII. You can do the FTP from your PC to the AS/400 and create the SAVF in a single step. Lets say our AS/400 is 192.100.20.10 with a User Profile of ITS and a password of TIME4ABEER - gotta have a little fun :) The SAVF on the PC will be STATS.SAVF in the C drive. We'll create the SAVF in QGPL called STATS. Using a DOS prompt, you would do ftp 192.100.20.10 ITS TIME4ABEER quote site namefmt 1 bin put c:/stats.savf /qsys.lib/qgpl.lib/stats.savf quit The first line starts an FTP session to your AS/400. The second line signs you on. The third line says we are going to use the IFS naming convention. The 4th line puts us in binary mode so there is no data conversion. The 5th lines copies the SAVF to the AS/400 in a file called STATS in QGPL and creates the file as a *SAVF. The last line ends the FTP session.
