Its possible this is not (wholly) related to the cumulative PTFs, but if
it was immediately after completing v4r3 to v4r4 that you saw capacity at 
73%, then the system had not yet started decompressing os/400 objects 
after
installation..
Then after cum pack installed and IPL, decompression jobs (QDCPOBJn) go 
to
work and  start eating up disk space...if you have >500 mb free then some 
if
not all decompression of os400 objects will take place.. exact details 
used
to be (and i assume still are) in the Software Installation Guide.
