Thanks, James, you reminded me of the other cost savings of taking orders on line. Many mail order companies spend almost all of their advertising budget on catalogs. It costs a surprising amount to mail a catalog--that's why most mail order companies don't mind "removing" people from their mailing list. We offer a reward to people who report receiving duplicate catalogs. List rental is part of the cost of mailing, although it is offset in part by renting our customers. > -----Original Message----- > From: email@james-w-kilgore.com [mailto:email@james-w-kilgore.com] > Sent: Wednesday, January 26, 2000 7:08 AM > To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > Subject: eCommerce (was Re: AS/6000) > > > Colin, > > IMHO, the greatest benefit is the expanded potential customer base. > > Without having to acquire mailing lists or canvassing. > > Even if the net result is a shift of -how- the orders are received, > there would be a higher degree of automation at the back end and > hopefully reduced cost. > > +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
