  • Subject: Indexing File lock problem on V4R4
  • From: "Stone, Brad V (TC)" <bvstone@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

A coworker is having a problem with file locks because the file is being
indexed. Here's the scenario.

FILEA has multiple members. It a logical built over MEMBER1. Access path
maintenence is *IMMED.

From time to time (3 times a day), they copy records from FILEB and add them
to MEMBER1 in FILEA.

They also have greenscreen apps that use FILEA MEMBER1.

Now, from time to time either the GS apps or the jobs that copies records to
this member errors out with a file lock. It's locked because the system is
indexing (*IDX for job) the file.

He did say the file is getting pretty big (maybe a million records). This
is on V4R4. He wants to know if there is a solution, and/or why this file
takes so long to be indexed. It just started happening all of a sudden and
causes some problems.

TIA!

Brad
