From the linux prompt, after logon, change to the specific directory, and type the program name (if it is on text mode), or run it through x-window or kde. FTP command to run remote program ? I never heard it. As far as I know, FTP is for File Transfer purpose only. Normally Unix base system accessed by telnet.
