The huge improvement to my mind was the CRT display. Remember the 6 line by 40 character backwards display that was placed vertically inside the desktop and shined up onto a 45-degree mirror so that we'd have no direct exposure to the tube's rays? What an odd thing it was to use the backspace key and see the mistyped characters actually disappear. That sure saved a lot of trees. (for those that don't remember, we had to type directly to the printer to send commands. When OCL came along we could type a file name and the file would actually type the command for us onto the printer, overcoming many typos and messed up commands. Was it OCL? That doesn't sound like the correct term.) _______________________ Booth Martin boothm@earth.goddard.edu http://www.spy.net/~booth _______________________ nina jones <ddi@datadesigninc.com> Sent by: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com 01/08/2000 10:27 AM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com cc: Subject: Re: System 34 > > You guys make me feel old.
