Carl:

I had the same problem. We wanted to send from the AS/400 only, not receive.
We were sending spool
files out using Gumbo software.

We have a registered domain named link400.com. My system name is CCA170.
cca170.link400.com is not
a valid domain, so, I used CHGTCPDMNA to make my host name "link400", while my
domain name is "com".
Now, SMTP formats my address as link400.com which is valid and it works.

If you want to receive, go with Patrick's suggestion #1. My ISP wanted to
charge $50 setup and $5
month.

Carl,

A couple of thoughts:

1. Your ISP can add an MX record for van400.ediconsulting.com. They
might hit you a couple of bucks to set it up, but then it will be
recognized and you can use it. It can point to the same IP address as
your normal mail system, or it can point to your AS/400.
