First !!! HELP !!!! Would you all please look at what you are posting before you hit send !!!! HTML format code, and Multiple copies of the David's Midrange Disclosure statement makes it very hard to read what's coming through, and even harder to identify those messages that members of the community might be able to provide assistance with. Debbie, your LAN Tech is most likely correct ! Kind of !! do a WRKLIND (name) or WRKCFGSTS *LIN (name) then option 8, and look a the definition of the line that is supposed to be connected to the Ethernet card. I believe that it is the Resource Name you are looking for, (LINE01) or (CMN01). It most likely is pointing at the hardware resource for the Token Ring adapter instead of the Ethernet adapter, so when you Vary it online, you are in fact powering it up, and therefore sending indicators on the card. To find out use the WRKHDWRSC command and display your hardware configuration, and find both the Token Ring and Ethernet cards and record there resource names, best to print this whole thing and put it in a notebook anyway. Now, if the hardware resource and the Line Description point to different things change the Lind with the CHGLIND (name) PF4 function. It needs to be Varied off first, and then try and very it back on and see if you get the proper hardware response, and/or can ping a device on the network. As an aside if you go through and vary off Network Lines you should see the Token Ring go offline, AKA the lights go out. Also, while you are in the system, check any other LIND to make sure that the proper definitions are on the right hardware resource. (No different than assigning the right COMn port on NT). Sorry this does not have more detail, but my 170 is shut down for a vacation. Good Luck, and if you still need help and have an ECS modem I would be happy to dial in and assist you with resolving the problems next week. (12/27/1999) Jeffrey M. Silberberg CompuDesigns, Inc. Went through all the replies from the list - thanks so much to all of you for your help. I am really struggling here. < SNIP > Found a network guy and got him to find me a cable to the network. Plugged it into the Ethernet card at the back of the AS/400, and now I have another problem. The card on the back of the AS/400 with flashing lights (green & amber) is labeled 2724 and is for Token Ring. It has no cable plugged into it because we don't want to use Token-Ring. However, the card labeled 2838 for Ethernet has the Ethernet cable in it, but no flashing lights. The network guy here tells me this means that there is power in the AS/400 going to the Token Ring card instead of to the Ethernet card. Is this correct? How can I fix it?
