Couldn't someone knowledgeable in the arts write a CGI program that knows
when your server hasnt made a scheduled connection for n hours?

It could update your webpage with a 'list down' message, and possibly
initiate a mail to the list, saying the server is down temporarily.

Maybe the UPS has enough power to make a connection to say the power's down,
so you dont need one of those crontab thingies?
