real time due date quoting

Greetings,
I have been asked by a client to aid in an integration project between
Rhythm, a planning solution they have purchased from a company named I2, and
their legacy transactional systems on the AS/400.  Rhythm runs on NT.  One
function of this integration is a function to take an order being entered,
automatically sending the style, qty and due date requested to Rhythm which
will in turn decide when the style and quantity can be manufactured and
return an actual date.  We will then analyze the date received from Rhythm
to see if the due date is accepted or if the order needs further evaluation.

I am trying to determine a way to get this info from the AS/400 down to NT
and back again.  Rhythm has a command that can be run from a DOS command
that handles getting data in and out of Rhythm, but how do I send a command
to NT along with a few data fields.  Is a data queue a viable solution?  Can
it "push" a data stream down to NT and receive one back?  What are any other
options?

Also, has anyone had any experience with I2 or Rhythm?
