I thought Archie Leach was Cary Grant. Steve Martin was the one who did the cat juggling. So: Anyone who can juggle cats successfully can do things heretofore believed to be impossible. Getting a million dollars and not paying taxes on it has always been thought to be impossible. Steve Martin successfully juggled cats. I think the "obvious" conclusion makes as much sense as the price increase to maximize revenue. Also, Roger, you didn't go far enough. Why not raise the price of AS/400s to start at around $100,000,000,000. Don't need much volume to make the nut there. -----Original Message----- From: Roger Pence [mailto:rp@rogerpence.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 07, 1999 1:26 PM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: Re: Price Increases /* SNIP */ I've got an idea: why doesn't IBM simply raise the price of all 7xx upgrades to 1 million dollars per upgrade, across the board. To generate 500m in revenue, they'd only need to get 500 upgrades. That oughta be easy enough. /* SNIP */ for the puppies amongst you, before Steve Martin was Cary Grant, he was a stand-up comedian!). Martin's plan for getting a million dollars and not paying taxes on it: first you get a million dollars, then you don't pay taxes on it. Someone at the AS/400 division got their economics degree from The Steve Martin College of Modern Economics. rp +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
