Sorry if I misunderstood you, I thought your original comment stated that if DB2
was there then W-code must be, and this isn't necessarily true.

As to the database being there - yes it is but that doesn't help unless you
_only_ want to access the database via embedded SQL. The AS/400 implementation
of DB2 is unique in that it places a relational database 'skin' over a flat file
system. Or you could look at it as a flat file 'skin' over a relational
database, but the first version is probably more accurate. On mainframes, NT,
OS/2, AIX, Solaris, and other DB2 implementations you cannot map the DB as a
file and do RPG type file ops (READ, CHAIN, etc.) You have to chose between a
database and a flat file system - one of the AS/400s advantages is that it
doesn't make you choose.

Even if this wasn't a problem, it would do nothing to help with display files.

As a member of a team of Toronto Lab folks who looked at porting the RPG
compiler to the PC platform (an effort that ultimately resulted in VARPG) I was
very much involved in the problems inherent in trying to do such a port.
