All this negative AS/400 stuff is really starting to worry me. I had hoped to (semi) retire in 5 or 10 years and do some AS/400 consulting work to supplement my meager savings. Now I am starting to wonder...... Now, I will warn you these statements make my blood boil...... Tom Bittman is quoted as saying that there is a stronger emphasis on the RS/600 than the AS/400 for the long term..... He is also quoted as saying that IBM only lets Rochester do about 70% of what they want..... They also state that (this was covered in the Newswire/400 last week I think) Palmisano outlined 3 key objectives for the server group: 1.) Create a long-term vision 2.) Execute more effectively on server positioning 3.) Capture more server income and market share Duh, I wonder if they'd ever listen to their customers (especially this one who has spent a lot of money this quarter and will next quarter on AS/400 products)? Between this lack of marketing, the depressed numbers, and these impending (only can help in the short term will most likely hurt in the long run) workforce cuts I am totally disgusted. I hate to admit it but I sometimes thought Al was just a little harsh in the past. I take it all back. I was wrong (anyone repeats this to my wife I will deny it categorically). To be honest, my disgust is high enough that if for some reason the AS/400 no longer existed I think I would go out of my way to make sure I never buy an IBM server again........ Sorry for the rant.... On a technical note, has anyone (in person or through the trade press) done a comparitive analysis of the different AS/400 web servers? I'm working on a product position paper for e-commerce tools and would be interested in some input as to the +'s and -'s of the different AS/400 web servers.....
