Glenn, Yes, BUT !! Mimix, DataMirror, DataPropagator, etc... all support data shadowing ? not disk mirroring as I understand it. Would you agree ? If not how would you descibe / define the differences ? The original thread was could we "mirror" across LPAR partitions and since "mirror" is an IOP / hardware function my answer is NO. As the IOP and DASD can/must be allocated to a single partition. An YES, if you are running a 911 center and want H/A than do not LPAR a single AS/400 system, instead shadow to multiple systems. If you are running a service bureau and need multiple langauge support, or multiple time zone support, or restricted status of various applications at various times of the day, than LPAR is for you. Lastly, remember to be real carefull what you put in the "primary" partition because if you IPL it you IPL the BOX !! Jeffrey M. Silberberg CompuDesigns, Inc. In fact, everybody's software works on LPAR - that's the way it's designed - to be transparent to the software - and it is. A word of caution.....don't think that if you set up a single LPAR system with a primary and backup partitions that you have better availability than if you used two separate systems. You have to keep in mind where the single points of failure are - in a single system with multiple LPAR partitions, you have MORE single points of failure, not less. <SNIP> +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
