This happened to me a couple of times on our old F70, and both times it was
caused by a spool file gone nuts. The first time the system shut down and
there
wasn't even a spool file because the job didn't finish, just a huge data
base
file in QSPL. There really isn't anything you can do except IPL, if it hits
100%
it would probably shut down anyway.

Subject: 98% ASP Utilisation ???

Hi folks,

Last day I faced a strange situation. During month end processing the AS400
suddenly stopped responding. No commands would work. On further
investigation the m/c status showed that, it was running on 98% ASP
utilisation. Ultimately an IPL had to be done because nothing worked. After
the IPL we could delete and clean up space. Has anybody faced such a
problem? In such situations what needs to be done for a clean up without an
IPL?
