Don:
I have found the best dial up solution to be using an internet access
appliance. We install Sonic Systems Bandit unit. It is a stand alone RAS
unit that connects to the AS400 via Ethernet. It is very easy to configure
and attach a modem like a US Robotics (or any PC modem) and you are on your
way. The Bandit unit goes for about $350 and supports 3 dialin ports, so
the price performance is better than using a comm port on the AS400 for
dialup PPP. You really can't beat the solution, it supports dial back and
you dial it using PPP, once connected your just TELNET to the AS400 or FTP
or any IP service. We have probably installed about a dozen of them. I
know you are looking for autosync, however you will probably have an ever
increasing problem finding the auto sync units. Good luck.
