I have a utility called SAVSPLF out on the News/400 web site at URL - http://www.news400.com/sharewarefiles/msd0001.bat This utility takes a spool file and converts it to text and then blank compresses everything into a continuous stream of data with a audit report. The resulting file is just a physical file with fixed length records so you then just copies it to a tape as a standard NL or as a fixed standard block. There is second command included in the package called RSTSPLF. This command allows you to restore any spool file from the physical created by SAVSPLF. Two covents: 1. I have been using the product for ten years but somebody called me to say there was bug but have not had time to check that out. 2. Utility is written in RPG/III and uses the CPYF command to convert the spool files to text so it doesn't do AFP right. I need to rewrite it in RPG ILE and use the spool file API's but just haven't had the time. Hope this helps. -----Original Message----- From: Chris Beck [mailto:CBeck@good-sam.com] Sent: Monday, October 18, 1999 7:40 AM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: saveing spool files does anyone know of a good software shareware or freeware that will just let me do a simple save of a spool file to tape. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
