  • Subject: want to update a file three ways without using COMMIT to free
  • From: Mary Koetting <Mary_Koetting@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Thanks Henrik for your suggestions. I'll try to expand on my problem.

There is only one set of beg/end dates for each logical but the date (the
field is not defined as a DATE field) can be 00's and is sorted on the date
descending so to get the most current date for each set of dates.

No single record contains the most current dates for all date sets. I know
this is probably not the best way to keep them but this is all we have to
work with right now.

This program is in COBOL but I know that RPG has a 'release' key word to
unlock records. Does this only work if commitment control is not used?

Does commitment control supersede all other efforts to unlock the record?
Thanks again for your time and help.
