We use a mixture of savefile compression and trigger-based mirroring.

All objects are saved, and then compressed to about 1/3 of the savefile
size. Not ideal but much quicker than sending tapes (through the post).

The trigger-based mirroring is easy and works well for our switched lines,
but then we only have 3 files which we have to keep up to date on two live
systems. ie either system can update the file, and must tell the other
system about the change.

To give it a go, all you need is a generic trigger program that writes to a
Data Queue, then a batch job reads the data queue and copies it to a DDM
file. You can use RPG WRITEs/CHAINs and UPDATs with DDM as normal.

It's certainly not for most sites, but a packaged solution couldn't do what
we want.
