Here some more fun.... I just got a mailer that the cover says e-business tools, Small business? Your business. The intent of the document is to introduce the IBM small business program. From the PC company of course with mentions for Netfinity, PC 300 series, Intellistation, and lap tops. No AS/400's. Does this mean the AS/400 isn't for small business? Or is it the only division to have it's product specific marketing reeled in? Ok, so that one is open for debate. The next one really makes me wonder.... The announcement at the following url: http://www.ibmlink.ibm.com/uspress&parms=P_1999092702 is titled 'IBM Launches Major e-business Initiative Emphasizing Business Intelligence'. So I checked it out. The announcement has all kinds of gobbly gook for services and software. Under servers it lists only two (since they were recently announced).......an RS/6000 and an S/390. No AS/400 mentioned at all. And it looks like almost every piece of software mentioned is not available on the AS/400......I will admit that the BI site itself does a halfway decent job mentioning the AS/400..... The thing I like best is the line item for the S390 'S/390 Multiprise 3000 - Announced Sept. 20, offers midrange companies an integrated solution capability for running business intelligence applications.' That's right midrange.... I apologize for venting but I'm beginning to wonder if someone in NY really can't do the AS/400 justice....(Not you Al!). Sorry for the non-technical nature......I'm peeved. BTW, I've got a pretty good V4R4 story to tell if I get some time tomorrow..... Mike IBM announced today that they have shipped their 1 millionth copper Power PC chip this month. (See link below) They brag about their new Power PC 440 running at 550 MHz with up to 1000 MIPS using .18 micron technology. They brag about using copper technology in everything from routers, hubs, switches, TV set top boxes, cellular stations, RAID controllers, Apple Macintoshes, RS/6000s, S/390s. They talk about three times the performance of chips introduced just one year ago. No mention of the AS/400. I'm sure there is a good reason. Maybe they want to....ah....ah. Well maybe........, O hell maybe it's just politics (again). http://www.ibmlink.ibm.com/uspress&parms=P_1999092706 +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
