If you have not got this working yet here is a solution that worked for me.
I had this same problem earlier this year. I have an additional record
format in the called programs display file. It only consists of one line
with the following syntax:
A R RMVWDW CLRL(*NO) OVERLAY FRCDTA

In my program before returning to the calling program I do a write to this
record format. Display file was created with rstdsp(*no). Hope this helps.

Subject: Restore Display . . . *YES

I am getting unexpected behavior and can't figure out why. I have a
program with a main screen with header information about the application
and as the user makes various choices on the screen various windows are
displayed to respond to his requests. What is disconcerting is that when
the window is displayed the screen in the background is the first screen
used that day. It seems to never have the currnet background.

I'm thinking it must have to do with the Restore Display compile choice,
but if I say *NO then the window is displayed horribly.

Any ideas what may be causing this....?
