The best way to to this is a D-IPL (initialize the system). This will wipe all the data from your drives.The first thing the system will do is writing 0's all over the load source drive and since the AS/400 is a single level storage machine the data will be gone, you can count on that. After that the As/400 will install LIC and will ipl to DST. Next the drives you are going to add will be cleared in the same way. Then install the OS and take it from there.
