I'd leave it as it is.

I went throiugh this cycle just recently after upgrading to V4R4 and ended
up deleting the device descriptions I created to "improve" things.

The only caveat I would apply is that "it depends". I HAD to create a
remote device description for a HP5 to get rid of a "LOAD LETTER" message
that refused to go away any other way. This was a new IP Connection, all
the existing ones were Lexmarks which seem to work pretty well.

I would recommend getting hold of the AS/400 Printing redbook as that had
some other stuff in it about printer settings that I found pretty useful.
