this got me curious so i did a search, and they have a web page at:

http://www.universal.com/pub/open36/open36.htm

upon a quick scan, it does appear to be true that you can take your 36
stuff and just port it over.  but it doesn't say that you can do the
same to port it back!  i would be surprised if you could, because it
also goes on about the stuff it can do that the 36 can't and mentions in
there somewhere about making c code out of the 36 stuff.

we had a customer about 5 years ago that was looking seriously at the
other unix 36 look alike, and ended up not getting it.  i've been
curious from time to time about how well those products REALLY work!

WARNING!!!!  DON'T DO IT!!  There are TONS of differences you must know about.  Like security differences!  The Operating system is now completly different from an AS/400 -> I had a customer do this, and the support of the RS/6000 took a HUGE amount of time, and effort.  Much as it's probably one of the best Unix systems out there, it's a HUGE glorified PC!  So - hardware problems abound.  Software would get out of whack in moments - so do an operating system upgrade, and the S36 Stuff hoes crazy!  WARNING!!!!  An AS/400 is $5,000 - and you can 100% emulate a S36, and it's built into the Operating System - you even get POP (not POP3 for you TCP/IP but POP the software package we used on the 36!!)
