I'm with you Cyndi. I think IBM's conference is better suited for
classroom training and for flexibility in scheduling sessions. If you find
that 5 minutes into 1 session it is not what you thought, you have time to
get to another one and get something out of it. As opposed to changing
hotels if you want to do that, which can be the situation with COMMON,
because it is so big. However, COMMON does have more chances to mingle
with other users and talk shop. So if you're looking to socialize for your
education dollar then COMMON is for you.

By the way, have you ever been to the Opryland Hotel? Very nice.

See you in Nashville,
Sam Kanakanui

Alan Schuetze asked:

Is anybody looking at going to the AS/400 Technical Conference INSTEAD of
Common in San Antonio? Or are the cost issue the same.

I am planning on the Technical Conference in Nashville. Two other people
from my department attended Common in New Orleans and one went to Common
SF.
They were disappointed in the room sizes and the classes being spread out
over several different places.

I enjoy the technical conferences in that they are all in one hotel, meals
are provided (breakfast and lunch) and at those meals you get to sit with
the IBM people and continue the discussion from the last session.
Conference
fee is $1,395, hotel rate is $160. Common's regular rate is $995 but you
have to be a member, corporate membership is $295/year, individual
$95/year.
Rooms advertised for Common range between $77-175 single occupancy. Meals
are on your own. All in all, about the same price. But for my money and
time, I will take the IBM conference over Common.

The added plus for me is that I will get to see some cousins that I haven't
seen in 15 years ! ;-)

Thanks,
Cyndi
