My sentiments exactly.  Unless you want to justify some ungodly matching 
records program and keep copies of your data and compare them on a periodic 
basis.

Colin ... this is exactly what a trigger is for? Why not use a trigger??

Is there any way to monitor for changes to a file, without using
journalling or triggers. 

I want to write records to a log file if changes are made to another
file, 
but I don't want to journal the file or apply triggers 
(Don't want the log to interfere with other processes).
