Exactly, I'm not familiar with the gnu libraries, but it sounds like the sort of thing I'm looking for. Even if it were commercialized, like the VB Tools Catalog, I'm sure there would be many procedures worth paying a little bit for. Back in the S/36 days, I remember Lou Forlini used to sell little assembler routines for from $20-40 each. They were very useful and you could pick just the ones you needed. I probably bough 25-30 of them over the years. The cost was very affordable and hopefully enough to cover his time. For all you guys selling books out there, a couple of good procedures would net you as much as a booksale and would probably be a lot cheaper to produce & distribute. -----Original Message----- From: John Hall <jhall@hillmgt.com> To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> Date: Thursday, July 15, 1999 3:16 PM Subject: Re: AS/400 shareware/utilities - was RE: File editor Freeware >What we really need is something similar to the gnu libraries in unix/c > >IBM has a ton of API's out there but you need to be an expert programmer >to get them to work (or copy an example) A library of procedures to >make these EASY to use for everyone would go a long way towards >improving programmer productivity > >John Hall > +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
