I have a bunch of remote workstation controllers that I needed to upgrade the microcode for 'Y2K' compliance. Upgrading the Perle 494's was a snap (as are most things with Perle). I was able to download the update from their web site. It comes with an install utility to create the image on a STANDARD floppy diskette. All you need to do is insert the disk and reboot the controller. The configuration is stored in CMOS and backed up on to the floppy disk with each boot. Does anyone know if the IBM 5494 controllers work the same way? IBM also puts the files up on their web site, but in typical IBM fashion, you need a 2.88 MB floppy drive in order to create the microcode diskette. Who the heck has such an animal? Nobody that I know of.... So you end up having to order the microcode from them.... I have no doubt it cost more to package and ship the diskettes to me than what they are worth... No wonder everything blue is so expensive... +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
