Stephanie: Essentially the OS/400 version on your B10 is a subset of the most current release of OS/400 which happens to be V4R4. While both the hardware and software are dramatically different now, what you have learned is very relevant. IBM is the master at backwards computability therefore everything that works in V2R1 should work at V4R4. Of course there are many more features in the OS today, but you will find in very comfortable. As far as buying the B10.... don't. It will cost you too much to make in Y2K ready as far as an OS upgrade. If you are interested in buying an AS400, look at the new 170, a very small config can be had for about 7-8K. As far as compilers I'm not sure, however you may wish to check out some of the various timesharing companies out there. For a monthly fee you have access to an account on an AS400 over the Internet. Then you don;t have to worry about the machine, upgrades, etc. If you'd like more info on our service, check out www.ediconsulting.com.
