There are a couple of ways to do this-the way that Booth described works
as well as any other, and without the expense of additional translation
tools (like Data Junction).  [Booth-remember the trouble we had with
those dang signs in that FTP file you did for us?]

        The conversion programs don't know how to handle the numbers and
the
        numbers' signs very well.  

        In the end I've generally written a small RPG program that lays
out the
        data as text, with a program described output file.  If you use
this
        method, use an N for the edit code on the numbers and you'll get
the
        leftside minus sign.

        The method isn't very sophisticated but to get something working
in the
        next hour, this method works.
