  • Subject: New 720 HW Failures

We recently(5/2) upgraded from a 1way 620 to a 4way 720 and have been very
happy with the performance. The 4.1 to 4.3 Upgrade went VERY WELL. Now the
downside

On Monday Night we lost 1 of the 4 cpus. Which caused a crash and an IPL.
Once up we continued to run on 3 cpus. On Wednesday IBM came in to do the
replacement (we couldn't give them the machine till then). Well that card
lasted about 1.5 hours. I was able to get to DST ONCE, which showed NO
failed of missing HW. I tried to continue the IPL but it never made it up.
All additional tries failed hard before DST. IBM put the first card back in
and we are on the 3 cpus until Saturday evening.

IBM has been very responsive and all. We will have both BOTH CPU CARDS
replaced with "KNOWN GOOD" cpus per the support center.

Has anyone heard of similar problems? Anyone have a 720 4 way? Are we just
lucky or does IBM have a problem??
