A secure solution for AS/400 access is Secure Sockets Layer. It is supported directly in the telnet server in V4R4 (released last Friday) and in the "Free Proxy Server" for the AS/400 V4R1, R2, and R3. IBM's Comm Server for NT also supports SSL encrypted TN5250 sessions. This solution does not address LAN access, only direct AS/400 access. It will not break the bank and is easy to setup on the client end since the SSL support is usually built into the emulator.
