Roger -- I wrote such a "daemon" four years ago using the 16-bit PC Support DLL's and VB 3.0. It was COOL! I even included a macro language. It was really cool to sit at an AS/400 terminal, type in a command, and watch Notepad fire up on the PC across the room. Here is a slightly kludgy, but effective way to do what you want: 1. Install a low-cost FTP server ($50 max) on the target PC. 2. Write a CL program to use FTP to send a command to the PC. This command could including passing a document name and perhaps a start-up macro in Word or Excel. 3. Call the CL program from within your RPG program. Another similar, but perhaps more robust method, would be to use data queues. Have a PC "daemon" VB programming running polling the queue for entries. Each entry is a PC command to execute, put their by whatever appropriate process is on the AS/400 side. rp +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
