How would they define the structures to not include the DS line?  
In multiple structure members it seems like it could be a problem.  
Another alternative may be to define the DS both ways and use 
some like /IF DEFINED(USEBASED)... /ELSE... ENDIF.  This would 
not affect existing code, and the documentation would not need 
a lot of changing.

for a given variable a name and therefore if someone (Rochester) has already
built the copy member you can't add that syntax and have to use an alternate
approach.  That is why I suggested to Bruce that they look at changing the
includes so as not to include the DS line.  That would let you do exactly what
you want.

I still think the easy answer if for you just to copy/modify the includes (and
add it to your list of "must do with new release") to include the based keyword.
