Just thought I may as well join in on this thread - I started in the 
mid-70s on mini-computers - Data General, HP, then moved to mainframes for 
about 10 years.  Then I quit working to be a full-time mom, but had a home 
business where I used a PC to download data to a computerised knitting 
machine.  Now I'm back working full-time.  I'm finding that the AS/400 has 
all the attributes that I miss from mainframe machines and I'm quite 
enjoying learning about it.  Languages I've used are mainly PL/1, but some 
Fortran and Cobol.
