Have you considered a commercial product, such as MIMIX (from
Lakeview)(which we use and like a whole lot)?  These products have done the
hard work and provide service on their programs (Yes, they really do).

MIMIX uses journals to send changes to your remote system, where the
journalled information updates a duplicate of your libraries.

This assumes, of course, that your remote system is at least as big as your
production libraries.
