Wouldn't this be a matter of definition?  To me, one month before 6/30 is in 
fact 5/30, not 5/31.  What did you get when you subtracted a month from 5/31?   
          

If you are really trying to find the end of the month, then set the date to 
mm/01/yyyyy and subdur 1:*D.

In another situation similar to this, I had to make a subroutine that tested 
for the the 28th, 30th, and 31st day.  If those days, then test for the problem 
yo encountered.
