Query Performance

Please advivse how to best minimize the performance degradation of interactive queries on QINTER .  V3R7 on my machine.  I intend to conduct a Query class this week and need to solve this issue if i can.  I have essential operations working 24/7 so there is no downtime to take advantage of.
