1.      We use MAPVAL to change values on screen.  I believe it's something
like this:
        MAPVAL(('0001-01-01') *BLANKS)
        MAPVAL(('1940-01-01') *BLANKS)

2.      Always use DFT keyword for all date fields to avoid this.

3.      We use date fields on all screens with above MAPVAL.

4.      I think Midrange Computing's current issue describes using NULL date
values.
