For example if we are unable to get the manufactuer to certify that our elevators (we are in property management) are Y2K compliant but we have maintenance personell ready to ensure proper operation then we are y2K ready. Basically Y2k ready provides a lot of wriggle room ! If you are ready to ensure that operations will continue (computer or otherwise) then you can state you are Y2k ready. So you can be Y2k ready without being y2k compliant.
