You bet it's possible.  What you want is the read into verb.

if  cond-1
then  read logical-1 into record-buffer
else if cond-2
then read logical-2 into record-buffer

etc.


Note.  The record buffer can be defined by copy of the physical file format.  
The
caveat here is that the logical formats must all match the physical formats, or
at least all the logicals you read from must have the same format and then you
can map the record-buffer from one of the logicals.
