Yes, your application programs on the AS/400 can access remote non DB2/400 databases. You will need to setup the remote database on the relational database directory entry and then use the appropriate gateway to access the remote database. ORacle provides Oracle Access Manager to access remote Oracle databases from an AS/400 program. We have been using this product to access ORacle on an RS/6000. This does not change the default database on the AS/400. Your programs will need to be compiled with specific options so they look at a remote database at runtime.
