I think there are a few concerns
Check the math out on the  cross century  boundary calcs

Next  you get into multiple date conversions thus there could be a real
performance  concern with  any sort of volume.

There is  a  commercial  standard  date routines available that  does this
in -I think  over 106 different formats including calc of date differences.
day of week  year  etc,
