In theory, if you have only one interactive job on system, server scheduling algorithm will not kick in and you should have unconstrained performance for your job (I guess it was done exactly for this case - backup scenarios). Best regards Alexey Pytel Jeff Crosby <jlcrosby@fwi.com> on 01/22/99 12:55:51 PM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com To: "Midrange List Server (David Gibbs)" <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> cc: (bcc: Alexei Pytel/Rochester/IBM) Subject: Backup performance on mixed-mode server We currently have a V3R2 CISC machine. We do the backups from the console interactively (not batch) since we bring the system to a quasi-restricted state. The only subsystems remaining active are QCTL and QSPL. QCTL has only the console and QSPL has only the printer writers. Later this year, we will be replacing the CISC with a 170 mixed-mode server. In a mixed-mode server, will we get better backup performance if the actual save is submitted to batch; and the console simply waits for a completion message? I.E., will the "CFINT?" job(s) kick into gear when doing an interactive backup, even if the other subsystems such as QBATCH, QINTER, QSERVER, etc are down? Thanks for any insight. -- -Jeff jlcrosby@fwi.com +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
