this is kinda crude but we just use to vary the devices off and connect the
cable to the other AS400 and vary it back on...cheap.

O.K. O.K. I apologize, this question has been around a few times before,
but not having the need then I ignored the answers. What are people
using to share an 8mm tape drive between two AS/400's? My black box
catalogue lists SCSI switches for about $500 - seems a little high, no?
