Hello Vikas, You should read the ILE Concepts manual (SC41-3606) to understand activation groups. An activation group is means of segmenting a given job space to different isolate parts of an application and so give the developer greater control over the use of system resources. There are two types of activation group; default and named. There are two types of default activation group; one for all the OS code and one for user code. The default action for most of the CRTBNDxxx commands is to use the default activation group. This gives similar behaviour to OPM programs and was chosen for backwards-compatibility. Named activation groups are better and watch out for ACTGRP(*NEW) if you are using the CRTPGM command. (There were valid reasons *ACTGRPDFN can be specified on two parameters of the OVRDBF command; OVRSCOPE and OPNSCOPE. In both cases the meaning is the same. Both these parameters scope (or limit) the override. In OPM programs OPENS are scoped to the job ??????? and OVERRIDES are scoped to the program call-level. *ACTGRPDFN provides a default value that scopes to the activation group if the OVRxxx is run in a named activation group (allowing the developer to determine which parts of the application are affected by the override), or scopes to the call-level if run in the default activation group (thus behaving like an OPM program override). Activation groups are another useful tool but like all of ILE require design to make good use of them.
