>> Can any one explain the Technical Problems associted with the Euro >> Dollar conversion .I think this a new bussiness oppurtunity for Tech >> Shop's.How exactly this can be handled. Disclaimer - I work for a company that offers products in this arena. Our parent company (Hal Italy) has information on it's web site that you might want to take a look at (www.halinfo.it/bpexx100). I'm not too conversant with the problems but as I understand it there are a number of issues involved. For example, the first thing the customer has to decide is if they are going to use option two step approach and start by using the dual currency option (i.e. accounting in both their own currency and the Euro) or if they are going to do it all in one step and just switch straight to the Euro. Obviously the problems encountered will be significantly different during the early stages depending on the approach. One factor in Euro that differs from the Y2K problem is that automatic remediation is far more complex. Although tracking all dates etc. was a problem, changing the code automatically was reasonably easy once the affected fields were located. The Euro is much harder to deal with. In countries like Italy (low unit value currencies) values do not carry decimal places, and in some instances represent (say) thousands of lire. When prices change to include decimal places, what happens when rounding, sizing of intermediates, etc. etc. Other currencies such as the Irish Punt (sp?) have the opposite problem - they have a high unit value and prices of small items may contain three or four decimals. It all makes Y2K look simple !! +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
