We use have a 3490E tape drive, and we can Create/Write & Read to 3480
media.

As far as I am aware we do not have any special PTF's loaded on the As/400.

David,
With a 3490 you can read 3480 cartridges but not to create/write them.
It is very disappointing. But only IBM can answer why when they shipped 3490
and
most
mainframe sites used 3480 you couldn't send a 3490 tape to them, e.g. till
now we
have to send old reel tapes to such sites here.
